The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) applauds the Obama administration's action to fill the vacant position of director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). As conservator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, FHFA has the critical responsibility of ensuring the GSE's continue to provide a reliable source of liquidity for the housing finance industry with substantial focus on low to moderate income borrowers. NAHREP looks forward to working with the FHFA and its director, once confirmed, to help stabilize America's housing markets.

NAHREP members: Get involved! Join NAHREP leaders for three days of inspiration, thought leadership and advocacy at the 2013 NAHREP Housing Policy & Hispanic Lending Conference on March 25-27 in Washington D.C. This year's lending-focused format will bring more than 20 mortgage banking leaders together in an innovative format that engages them in important dialogue about the rules and regulations that are changing the housing business.
The opening General Session will include Bill Kilmer, SVP, Mortgage Bankers Association and Armando Falcon, CEO Falcon Capital Advisors, who will discuss NAHREP's 2013 policy positions.
Day two of the conference opens with a CEO Roundtable including high level participants, Mike Heid, CEO, Wells Fargo Mortgage and Jim Parrott, former Sr. Advisor for the White House Economic Council.
More than 150 members, who are signed up to participate in Capitol Hill meetings with congressional staff, will appeal to lawmakers to support NAHREP's call to action with legislative policy that stimulates the housing market.
"The Capitol Hill visits are one of the most exciting parts of the policy conference," said NAHREP President Gerardo "Jerry" Ascencio. "Our NAHREP family brings such passion to the table and the kind of momentum that can create dynamic change on a national scale."

More than 80 chapter leaders came to San Diego on January 31-February 1 for two days of training and development offered through the 2013 NAHREP Leadership Academy. The Academy educates Hispanic real estate leaders on NAHREP philosophy, history, goals and objectives along with valuable leadership and management skills.
The program featured a discussion on the inception and future of NAHREP by Co-Founders Gary Acosta and Ernie Reyes, and a segment on public speaking by Certified Public Speaking Coach Chris Witt. NAHREP held a dinner for participants and sponsor partners on the night of January 31, that included keynote remarks by NAHREP President Gerardo "Jerry" Ascencio on increasing productivity, eliminating procrastination and improving time management.
The second session of the 2013 NAHREP Leadership Academy will be held in Washington, DC on June 23-24. This session will allow participants who attended the San Diego training to experience an overview of housing policy delivered by the National Association of REALTORS®. Participants will also learn about the secondary housing market with a visit to Freddie Mac Headquarters.
NAHREP is now accepting nominations for the Top 250 Latino Real Estate 2013 Award, the industry's first-ever comprehensive list of Hispanic residential real estate agents. The comprehensive list of rankings is compiled by NAHREP through analysis of MLS (Multiple Listing Service) data and self-nomination. The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2013. To download the nomination form, go to
http://nahrep.org/top250.
The 2013 rankings recognize agents who have closed an outstanding number of residential real estate transactions. Last year more than 10,000 agents and about 100 self-nominated agents were evaluated as part of the rankings.
"As Latinos emerge as a consumer force in the nation's housing market, Hispanic real estate professionals and their expertise in this growing market segment will be reflected in these rankings," said NAHREP President Gerardo "Jerry" Ascencio.
The rankings will be announced in June. Award recipients will be recognized at the 2013 Membership and Industry Leaders National Convention in Los Angeles on September 29-October 1. Sales production data for transactions closed in the 2012 calendar year will be considered. Ethnic background of nominees will be confirmed. An independent third party will perform all analysis and research.
Gary Acosta, NAHREP co-founder and CEO, is a member of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) Consumer Advisory Board and participated in this week's public meeting in Washington, D.C. A portion of the meeting was streamed via webcast on the Internet. A video of the meeting is available online for a limited period of time. To view it, please

CFPB Director Richard Cordray made remarks prior to a discussion with CFPB Associate Director Zixta Martinez and Consumer Advisory Board members. Acosta offers comments during the meeting about access to credit, the loss of the subprime market and the important role of the bureau in providing guidance on in-language marketing and servicing. His comments can be found at about 50 minutes into the video.
The Consumer Advisory Board serves as a way for the CFPB to solicit external feedback on consumer engagement, policy development, research and other topics.
